Upcoming: “Beyond Caravaggio” Concert Melds Voice, Piano & Visuals
On May 10, the Kadriorg Art Museum will host a special concert titled Beyond Caravaggio, performed by Camilla Lopez (voice) and Matteo Ramon Arevalos (prepared piano). The immersive performance incorporates manipulated images of Strozzi’s paintings projected and altered in real time through physical interaction with the piano’s inner strings. The concert is held in connection with the museum’s current Strozzi exhibition.
HÕFF 2025: Horror & Fantasy Festival Delivers Thrills in Haapsalu
The Haapsalu Horror & Fantasy Film Festival (HÕFF), held from April 25–27, drew packed crowds to the coastal town for its annual celebration of the weird, the dark, and the supernatural. Highlights included the Baltic premiere of Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, and the first screening of Estonian folk-horror film Põhjala Kaja, directed by Kaur Kask, which received a standing ovation. The festival also featured workshops on folklore in horror cinema and immersive VR installations.
Jazzkaar Nears its Finale with Powerful Performances
As Jazzkaar 2025 approaches its final weekend, standout concerts by Gretchen Parlato, Avishai Cohen Trio, and Estonian artist Kirke Karja have reaffirmed the festival’s international status. A strong showing from the Young Jazz Talent Showcase has also spotlighted Estonia’s next generation of improvisers. The festival wraps up on April 28 with a collaborative set featuring musicians from Estonia, Finland, and Poland.
Strozzi Exhibition Draws Strong Crowds at Kadriorg Art Museum
The exhibition Bernardo Strozzi: Master of Caravaggio’s Shadow continues to attract international visitors at the Kadriorg Art Museum. Running until July 6, the show presents a rare collection of works by the 17th-century Italian Baroque master. It is one of the largest Old Masters exhibitions ever held in Estonia and part of the museum’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Maarja Nuut Announces New Album Muundumine for May 17
Estonian experimental artist Maarja Nuut has announced that her long-awaited album Muundumine will be released on May 17, 2025. Following the release of her single of the same name earlier this month, the album will explore themes of transformation and ancestral memory, blending electronic textures, voice loops, and field recordings. The release will be accompanied by a multimedia performance tour across Estonia and Scandinavia.
Estonian Music Awards Nominees to Be Announced April 30
The Estonian Music Awards 2025 nominees will be revealed on April 30, ahead of the ceremony later in May. Industry watchers are predicting strong representation from Puuluup, NOËP, Maarja Nuut, and YASMYN, as well as renewed recognition for classical releases by Sten Lassmann and EPCC.
